Chayote is a plant that rich in nutrients pertaining to the gourd family Cucurbitaceae, commonly with melons, cucumbers, and squash. It is recognized globally by various names according to its country.

In Hawaii it is known as pipinola , In Australia and New Zealand it is called mirliton, pear squash, vegetable pear or choko, it's called chuchu in Brazil and tayota in the Domenican Republic.
Its tuberous and good root is known as chinchayote or chayotextle in Mexico and ichintal or güisquil in Guatemala. In the Philippines it is called to its popular name "sayote".
